De Montfort University Dubai is seeking a creative and experienced Lecturer in Interior Design to join our Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery and development of a forward-looking, professionally grounded interior design curriculum that reflects the importance of sustainability, inclusivity, and contemporary spatial practice.
You will play a key role in teaching and mentoring students within the undergraduate Interior Design programme, while contributing to curriculum development, student support, and collaborative learning experiences. You will also apply your industry knowledge and creative expertise to enrich the academic environment and foster a studio culture that prepares students for the evolving design industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, studio-based teaching across the Interior Design programme with a focus on contemporary and professional practice.
- Provide specialist instruction in Retail and Exhibition Design, with the ability to integrate strategic design thinking and digital design tools.
- Contribute to the design, development, and continual enhancement of modules and course content.
- Supervise student projects, support academic advising, and participate in assessment processes.
- Maintain personal research and/or creative practice and apply this knowledge to teaching and learning.
- Use current design technologies including CAD, 3D modelling, and Virtual Reality (VR) as part of teaching.
- Participate in open days, student showcases, exhibitions, and recruitment initiatives.
- Contribute to academic administration and collaborate with colleagues to enhance the student learning experience.
Candidate Requirements:
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Interior Design or a closely related discipline (Essential)
- All academic qualifications must be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) or be eligible for attestation upon offer of employment (Essential)
- Candidates must also ensure their qualifications are eligible for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency, or be willing to begin this process upon appointment
- A PhD in a relevant field (Desirable)
- A teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve one (Essential)
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 –5 years of teaching experience in higher education, ideally in Interior Design or a related subject area
- Professional experience in interior design practice, particularly in Retail and Exhibition Design (Essential).
- Experience in setting and marking assessments, supervising student work, and contributing to programme development.
- Willing to teach related subject areas to interior design, such as product design, furniture design, and design innovation and management.
- Familiarity with the expectations of UK higher education and international education contexts is an advantage
Skills & Attributes:
- Proficiency in interior design software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D rendering tools, Rhino, 3Ds Max, VR and AR platforms)
- Strong ability to transfer knowledge through both practical instruction and theoretical frameworks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a team-oriented approach.
- Ability to design inclusive and effective learning materials that meet diverse student needs.
- Excellent pastoral care and student support to ensure wellbeing.
- Self-motivated, well-organised, and able to thrive under pressure while maintaining high standards in teaching and service delivery
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and innovation in teaching
